APAC Innovation Summit

The APAC Innovation Summit – Smart City was held on the 22nd-23rd September 2016 at The Grand Hall A&B of Science Park Conventions Centre 3. This is a two-day event hosted by the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation. It aimed to gather a panel of smart city experts across the world to share their insight in the global mega trend of smart city development and the latest innovations in creating a smart living environment. The programme on the first day consisted of four parts, including “Smart Mobility”, “Smart Buildings”, “Smart and Healthy Living” and “Smart Environment”. Experts from the United Kingdom and Sweden shared their insights and experience in smart city initiatives. Some of the HKSAR government representatives also joined as panel members in a discussion titled “Smart Government Smart Hong Kong” chaired by Ir Allen Yeung, the Government Chief Information Officer. Officials from Electrical and Mechanical Service Department, Planning Department, Environment Protection Department, Transport Department and Water Supplies discussed their previous works and planning in order to help Hong Kong achieve its smart city plan. There was also a high-level discussion chaired by the Under Secretary for the Environment, Ms. Christine Loh. She led the panel members from Airport Authority, CLP, Hong Kong Housing Society, MTR and New World Development to share their challenges faced and insights in the hope of achieving the smart-and-green solutions for the densely populated Hong Kong. It was hoped that their experience could bring further business opportunities.

The programme on the second day consisted of two parts, including a half-day seminar and a series of business matching session. The half-day eID and FinTech seminar was co-organised by Hong Kong Science and Technology Park, Hong Kong Computer Society, Cyberport and Smart City Consortium. They shared how Fintech and eID had become increasingly important in the development and growth of the Financial Services industry. Another major highlight in this two-day programme was the series of business matching session. The session involved more than 30 projects with entities from Australia, China, France, Italy, Spain, the United States. Professionals and representatives joined hands to share their thoughts in echoing the panel theme on the first day. Through the business matching session, ISL interchanged inspiration and experience in smart city initiatives with various overseas entities.
